The UNESCO Orangutan Preservation Video was created to support UNESCO’s project in Sumatra, which focused on preserving orangutans while helping local communities build more sustainable sources of income. The initiative introduced a new farming program for local residents, designed to improve livelihoods and reduce pressure on the natural habitat surrounding them.
This project carried two interconnected messages: the urgency of orangutan preservation and the importance of community participation. By showing how conservation can work alongside economic opportunity, the video helped communicate that protecting wildlife is not only an environmental effort, but also a social one.
Based on the brief, the video needed to explain the program in a way that felt clear, emotional, and accessible. The challenge was to present conservation and livelihood development without making the story feel too technical. It had to speak to audiences through people, place, and purpose.
We crafted the story and suggested a mixed-media approach that combined live shoot with animation. Live footage brought authenticity and human context, while animation helped simplify key ideas, visualize the program flow, and make the message easier to understand.
